Job Title: Jamboree Site Design Section Member, Jamboree Site Department
Nature of Engagement: Volunteer Contract
Duration: January 2025 – December 2027 (or earlier, depending on project timeline)

As a Jamboree Site Design Section Member, you will be at the heart of one of the most exciting and impactful events in the Scouting world—the World Scout Jamboree. Working within the Jamboree Site Department, your role will involve collaborating with architects, industry experts, and environmental specialists to help design the layout and infrastructure of the event site on Sobieszewo Island in Gdańsk.

You will play a pivotal role in creating a sustainable and functional Jamboree site that meets WOSM guidelines while addressing the environmental responsibilities of the Jamboree Organization. Your work will span from the planning and design phase through the construction, operation, and ultimately the decommissioning of the site. Key areas of focus will include water, power, network, waste management, warehouses, tents, and site layout.

What you should expect

As a member of the Jamboree Site Design Section, you will be responsible for shaping the overall look and feel of the Jamboree site, ensuring that it is both functional and visually appealing for all participants. Your role will involve:

Creating the Site Map: You will design the layout of the entire site, ensuring all areas are strategically placed to enhance the experience for Scouts, leaders, and volunteers.
Planning the Layout: Working closely with other departments, you’ll plan the site’s layout to ensure a seamless flow of activities, from accommodations to event spaces, making sure the site is both accessible and welcoming.
Integrating Functionality and Aesthetics: Your design will balance both functional and aesthetic elements, ensuring the site is organized, efficient, and visually inspiring for all participants.
Collaboration with Other Teams: You will work closely with various departments to ensure the design aligns with logistical needs, environmental considerations, and safety standards, while maintaining the Jamboree’s distinctive and immersive atmosphere.

Applicant Profile

Technical Proficiencies:

Event Planning and Layout Design: Demonstrated ability to assist in planning large-scale events and designing site layouts. You should be able to create detailed maps and plans that optimize space, flow, and accessibility, ensuring a smooth experience for all attendees.
ArcGIS Proficiency:
- Map Creation: Skilled in creating and editing detailed maps, using layers, symbology, and labeling to enhance clarity and detail.
- Data Management: Proficient in managing and analyzing geospatial data, including importing, exporting, and organizing datasets for comprehensive site planning.
- Web Mapping: Experience in creating and managing web maps and applications using ArcGIS Online, integrating GIS data with other datasets and software for a unified planning approach.
- Integration with Other Data: Ability to seamlessly integrate GIS data with other datasets and systems, utilizing ArcGIS APIs and SDKs to make geospatial data accessible across platforms.
- 3D Visualization: Ability to create 3D visualizations of the site to assist in planning and presentation, providing a realistic view of the site layout and its components.
AutoCAD Proficiency:
- Drafting and Design: Competent in drafting and designing site plans, using layers, blocks, and annotations to create precise and scalable drawings.
- Precision Drawing: Capable of creating accurate drawings that adhere to safety and accessibility standards, ensuring measurements and details are precise and scalable.

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

Safety and Accessibility Standards: A solid understanding of safety regulations and accessibility standards to ensure the Jamboree site is safe and inclusive for all participants.
Spatial Awareness: Strong spatial awareness and the ability to think critically about how different elements of the site will interact, including considerations for traffic flow, crowd management, and emergency access.
Project Management: Experience in planning, executing, and overseeing projects, with skills in resource allocation, scheduling, risk management, and coordination with various teams.
Competence and Professionalism: Demonstrating a high level of competence, professionalism, and personal integrity in all aspects of your work.
Volunteer and Staff Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with volunteers and staff from international Scouting organizations, fostering collaboration and a positive team environment.
Team Collaboration: Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with colleagues.
Group Work: Experience working effectively in group settings, contributing to team success through cooperative efforts.
Objective Achievement: A proven track record of achieving stated objectives, meeting deadlines, and delivering results in complex project environments.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook 365, MS Word, Excel, and SharePoint for effective task management and communication.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently in a dynamic environment.
Distributed Team Experience: Experience working in a distributed team, coordinating across different locations and time zones.
International Environment Experience: Experience in a constantly changing international environment, with the ability to adapt to different cultures and operational challenges.
People-Oriented Approach: A people-oriented approach to effectively manage and support team members and participants, ensuring a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

Additional Requirements:

For Applicants from Poland:

Membership in the Polish Scouting & Guiding Association (ZHP).
Completion of leader’s service in the previous year, along with a favorable opinion from the relevant Regional Commissioner or Chief Commissioner.
Positive experience in managing projects at least at the regional level (domestic).
Ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English.

For Applicants from Abroad:

Membership in one of the organizations belonging to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).
A favorable opinion from your International Commissioner.
Positive experience in managing major events at the international level.
Ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English.
