JAMBOREE SITE
ON SOBIESZEWO ISLAND

The World Scout Jamboree is a fantastic event connecting scouts from all over the world, which also needs a fantastic setting. Due to this fact, this place needs to be unique throughout. That’s why we choose Sobieszewo Island!

Although Sobieszewo Island is a part of Gdansk, located in Pomerania (the northern part of Poland), it has preserved its charming natural environment. It is located away from the urban development areas. East of the city centre, it is nestled between the Vistula river delta and the Baltic Sea. It is a lowland area of high natural wealth. The island’s northern strip along the sea is a wide beach bordered by a forest. On the western side of the island, there are some residential areas of single-family homes.
The location proposed for the Jamboree Village is the island’s central and southern farmland containing 300 hectares of fields and meadows. What sets the area apart is the crisscrossing irrigation canals.
Sobieszewo Island will be the meeting place for all scouts. This decision was preceded by many talks and visits. History, nature and location could only confirm its uniqueness and attractiveness.

ENVIRONMENTAL VALUES

Sobieszewo Island has a diverse landscape due to its location. Sea proximity and river estuary cause that flora and fauna are vibrant.

Here you will find dunes, meadows, fields, ponds, lakes, reeds, canals, and pine and mixed forests on the island. There are not only 500 different plant species but also many different animals and birds. There live roe-deer, boars, racoons, beavers and seals. On the island live about 300 species of birds. Because of that, there are two ornithological reserves.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SITE

MEDIA & FACILITIES

The Island is supplied from the municipal water supply network. The water supply network will cater for the Jamboree-specified daily water demand. Amber Expo (proposed Check-In-Centre) is just 20 minutes away from the Jamboree village. The existing infrastructure allows fitting more than 250 coaches.

LOCATION

The proposed site for the Jamboree Village is situated 20 minutes from the Gdańsk city centre and Check-In Centre in Amber Expo. It takes up to 30 minutes to get to the airport and 40 minutes to get to the ferry terminal.

AREA

300 ha what is suitable to organize the World Scout Jamboree for 50.000 people. There is a possibility to expand the area to 700 ha.

LANDFORM

The site designed for the Jamboree Village is flat, crisscrossed with irrigation canals, a spacious area to pitch tents. The area's scenery is diverse – some hilly, undulating, with a shaft and dunes, partially forested.

CONNECTION TO THE MAINLAND

The island is located near the City of Gdansk, so getting to the city takes not a long time. You can contact one of two bridges by car, one from many buses or by ferry.

All the above advantages create a great site to perform a unique and fantastic Jamboree 2027 in Poland. We do hope that Sobieszewo Island will become home for thousands of scouts in a few years!

TECHNICAL DETAILS

WEATHER

The past years led to a conclusion that the weather conditions demonstrated a repeatable pattern in the period scheduled. The average temperature in July and August is 21ºC, with an average humidity of 55%.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The island is fed from the municipal water supply. It will meet the daily water requirements during the Jamboree.

CLOSE TO WATER

Another crucial touchpoint for planning water presence in the urban and natural scenery design of the Jamboree village is the network of irrigation canals crisscrossing its area. Every participant will have the opportunity of daily contact with water to know and feel what it is like to live on an island.

Drawing up our proposal, we know that carrying out such a significant event must not harm the natural environment. To neutralise the effects of our actions, we intend to adopt many environmentally friendly solutions.

after jamboree

When building the jamboree village, we are going to use as many temporary construction solutions as possible. After the event, the village is planned to be taken down.

We are determined to do our best to reverse all the changes made to the local landscape that would be undesirable for the further development of Sobieszewo Island. Regarding facilities requiring heavy earthwork and construction, we are going to use the least invasive technologies available.

Preparation of the jamboree site requires building parts of the roads network and water supply and sewage systems. Considering that such investment will leave a permanent mark on the island, these have been marked out based on the existing spatial planning documents. The jamboree is going to contribute to and accelerate the development of the island’s planned infrastructure.
