Job title: Co-head, Food Services Department 

Nature of engagement: Volunteer contract

Duration: From June 2025 until the end of the project in December 2027

Department description: The mission of the Department is to provide nutritious, diverse, and sustainable food options that cater to the needs of all Jamboree participants, while promoting the principles of healthy living and environmental stewardship.

The 2 leads of the Food Services Department will collaborate with the Jamboree Management Team and the other Heads of Department to deliver quality and affordable food service to all Jamboree participants.

What you should expect

Responsibilities

  • Outlining the overall vision and strategy for the food services at the Jamboree
  • Ensuring all FDS functions have the necessary resources, including manpower, equipment, and ingredients
  • Managing the relationship with all food suppliers and service providers, ensuring adherence to the contractual requirements and quality standards
  • Implementing measures to reduce food waste, promote sustainable sourcing, and minimize the environmental impact of food services
  • Manage the markets that provide food supply to the participants’ patrols, ensuring a consistent and adequate supply of diverse food items in the markets
  • Implementing strict standards to ensure the safety and hygiene of food items available in the markets
  • Designing and arranging food delivery, in accordance with the planned menu and safety protocols, to all camp-in-camp locations
  • Designing and implementing the canteen operations model
  • Overseeing the overall operations of the National Food Houses

Commitments

  • Work closely with other members of the Jamboree Planning Team to ensure effective, well organised and orderly hubs and subcamps functioning
  • Manage the design and set-up of the FDS Department, in terms of team members and necessary resources
  • Attend JPT meetings – about two in-person meetings per year, and several virtual meetings.
  • (if necessary) Attend HOC meetings, both virtual and in-person
  • Follow up promptly to communication by email and Slack
  • Have multiple hours available during the week on multiple days. The workload will increase in the run up to the event.
  • Be committed to work in multicultural, fast-paced environment.

Applicant Profile

Knowledge and skills

  • Scouting Knowledge: Familiarity with scouting principles and experience in Scout events is highly desirable.
  • Management skills: Excellent organisational and management skills.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with a diverse team.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex logistical challenges. High attention to details.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as a coordinator, sharing responsibilities and decision-making within the Subcamp Management Department’s team.
  • Knowledge of Outlook 365, MS Word, Excel, SharePoint operation

Background Experience  

  • Professional Experience: Proven ability to manage relationships with large suppliers (sourcing, contracting and contract execution)
  • Leadership Experience: Proven ability in leading teams, preferably in a scouting or event management context.
  • Community Building: Demonstrated ability in organizing activities and events that promote interaction and a sense of belonging.
  • Experience in Scout events is highly desirable, especially in the field of supplier operations/food services.

  • positive experience of projects at least at regional level (domestic)
  • ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English

  • active membership in one of the organisations belonging to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM)
  • a favourable opinion from the International Commissioner
  • positive experience of projects at international level
  • ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English
