Title: Technical Expert (Kayak Co-Leader), River Module Section, Programme Department
Nature of engagement: Volunteer contract
Duration: From January 2025 until the end of the project in December 2027 or earlier, depending on volunteer availability, but no less than December 2025. 

The Programme Department is responsible for planning and delivering the programme for Jamboree 2027, based on the ZHP Bid presented at the 42nd World Scout Conference. The River Module will offer a wide range of activities, including kayak trips, sailing, sea scout activities, and excursions. As a Kayak Co-Leader, you will be part of this section, responsible for developing and executing the kayaking programme and training volunteers. 

What you should expect

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and deliver a detailed programme for kayak excursions, ensuring activities are age-appropriate, safe, and aligned with the Jamboree’s objectives. 
  • Coordinate logistics, including kayak rentals, transport planning, and working with equipment suppliers to ensure safety and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate closely with the Kayak Commodore to plan routes and identify hazardous and interesting places along chosen rivers. 
  • Liaise with local partners, public institutions, and suppliers to provide enriching learning opportunities and ensure smooth operations. 
  • Train and manage IST members, ensuring they understand their roles and follow safety procedures during the activities. 
  • Participate in kayak leaders’ training in 2026 to ensure a well-prepared team of volunteers. 
  • Oversee the execution of the kayak excursions during the event, ensuring safety regulations are followed and solving any issues that arise. 

Applicant Profile

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • High level of competence in kayaking, with relevant experience on different types of rivers and leading trips. 
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage logistics effectively. 
  • Ability to work with volunteers and staff at both national and regional levels. 
  • Team collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and key partners. 
  • Emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity, with a willingness to learn and grow. 
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written. 

Background Experience: 

  • Proven experience in team management, ideally at the Scout District level or higher. 
  • Experience in organising large regional or national events, especially those involving aquatic sports. 
  • Positive experience in developing programmes for Scouting events. 
  • Interest in global education and the sea scout programme. 
  • Formal qualifications in aquatic sports are a significant advantage. 

Formal Requirements 

This position is open only to candidates from Poland. Applicants from Poland should meet the following requirements: 

  • Active membership in the Polish Scouting & Guiding Association (ZHP). 
  • Completed leader’s service in the previous year, with an endorsement from a District or Regional Commissioner. 
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
